The Benefits Of Lash Fills: How Often, How Much, How Long

Eyelash extensions are known far and wide as one of the most efficient and indulgent ways to make your lashes even more luscious and full than they already are. Not only does the treatment leave your eyes looking refreshed and renewed, but the process of getting your extensions adhered to your natural lashes is one that many people find incredibly soothing. That has always been one of my favorite parts of getting lash fills. The process does not take as long as getting full eyelash extensions done, but I still get to walk out of the salon feeling my absolute most beautiful.

Those a bit newer to the wonderful world of eyelash extensions may not be familiar with the term “lash fills.” I certainly needed some help with the terms and techniques when I first started on my eyelash journey, but soon enough, I felt like a seasoned professional. As time goes on, even those with more experience on the topic may want a refresher. So I will start this fabulous article off with a brief explanation of what exactly lash fills are and then delve into how they could help to enhance your natural beauty.

What Is a Lash Fill?

Essentially, lash fills are what you get when your lash extensions are starting to lose a bit of their fullness and luster. This will happen naturally over time, and that is when you go in for your lash fill appointment. A lash fill treatment involves applying fresh, individual lash extensions to new eyelashes in areas where there has been some fallout, resulting in occasional sparseness. These extensions will be applied to some of your natural lashes that did not previously have extensions attached, ensuring that all of your lashes will remain healthy and strong.

Other than the application of new extensions, your lash fill appointment may also include several other steps to keep your eyelashes looking gorgeous. Your technician may remove any extensions where the adhesive is nearing the end of its life, and the lash is about to fall off. This will help preserve the integrity of your natural lashes

The overall point of a lash fill is exactly what it says: to fill in your lashes. The purpose of your appointment is for you to leave with the long, full, flowing eyelashes of your dreams. Your lash specialist will spend this time doing whatever they can to both clean up your lash line and extensions while also keeping your natural lashes in sparkling condition. Now that we have gone over the basics of what a lash fill treatment means, let’s explore some more specifics about what you can expect.

How Often Should I Get Lash Fills?

One of the first questions on everyone’s mind in regards to lash fills is this: how often should you get them done? Well, this can vary to an extent depending on your specific lash growth cycle. The lash growth cycle is made up of three distinct parts, and everyone’s body moves through the process at different speeds. That said, it is typically recommended that you should get your lash fill done two-to-four weeks after having an extension treatment.

Always ask your lash technician for their opinion, as they are certainly the expert. Not only are they experts on lashes in general, but after your initial eyelash extension appointment, they are likely tremendously well versed on your specific lashes as well. Your specialist will know what kind of look you are going for, as well as details about your habits that could potentially affect the longevity of your extensions. We will go more in-depth with those eyelash-affecting habits later in the article. With this in mind, it is typically recommended to get lash fills done every two-to-three weeks.

Since everyone’s eyelashes and eyelash goals are different and therefore require different levels and kinds of regular maintenance, having a strong and open sense of communication with your lash technician is key. If you and your technician both understand your goals and your lash extensions are refilled on this kind of schedule, your lashes will effortlessly look their best and feel their best. Your specialist will be able to treat any extensions that appear to be falling out or near falling out, which will help the health of the natural lash as well.

How Much Do Lash Fills Cost on Average?

Typically, getting your lash fills done costs a fair bit less than getting extensions. This is because your initial extension appointment was much more detailed, and your technician consulted with you to determine how to best achieve your dream lashes. A delightful plan was made while you were first getting your extensions, and getting a lash fill is the follow-through of that plan.

Another reason that getting your lashes filled costs less than your initial appointment is that there is simply less work to be done. After all, during this procedure, the sparse areas of your lashes are just being filled in, as opposed to at first when you were starting with just your natural lashes alone.

It is worth noting that the cost of your specific lash fill treatment may vary a fair amount compared to others. The details of the procedure will often depend on the look you want, your specific lash growth cycle, and your technician. And this makes a lot of sense; your beauty is one of a kind, after all!

All-in-all, even though there is somewhat of a range to be expected, it is safe to say that lash fills will cost under $100, as opposed to eyelash extensions which usually range from $100-$200. The total cost for you will not only depend on your individual lashes but also on the salon and technician you decide to go to. Always do your research in regards to finding the right price point and lash experts for you. It can also be a good idea to look into before and after pictures or a gallery of clients with their lash treatments completed.

How Long Do Lash Fills Last?

As I mentioned earlier, your individual lash growth cycle will greatly decide how much time you have before you need to have your lashes filled. On average, though, lash fills will last for two to three weeks. There are also other determining factors, however.

For one thing, everyone has a different preference for how they want their eyelashes to look. If you like your lashes absolutely full and voluminous without a sparse patch in sight, you may need to get your lashes filled more often. If you are someone who does not mind the occasional sparseness, or if you don’t need your lash extensions that close together, then you could get away without a treatment for longer. Just like every step of the process, this totally depends on you and your preferences.

There are some other ways that you can gain some control over the lifetime of your lash extensions. Some habits are more conducive to your extensions having a long and happy life alongside your natural lashes, while others can be less than helpful. Let’s chat about them.

How Can I Increase the Time Between Lash Fills?

While you are not in direct control of your lash cycle, which does determine a fair amount of how long your extensions and fills will last, there are some ways you can help your extensions last. The running theme of each of these methods is avoiding any activities that could cause your natural lashes to fall out, as well as staying away from certain kinds of makeup and cleansers. Here are some concrete steps you can take to make your eyelash fills last longer:

– Make sure not to rub or tug at your eyes, as this could cause undue irritation.

– If you usually sleep on your stomach, consider switching to your side or back. Your face being against the pillow could make your extensions come out quicker.

– Do not use any makeup that contains oil. Oil breaks down the bonds of the glue used to attach extensions to your natural lashes.

– For the same reason as stated above, do not use any cleansers that contain oil.

How Long Does It Take To Get My Lash Fills Done?

Since getting lash fills is not as extensive as getting a full set of extensions, it stands to reason that it would take a shorter amount of time to get them done. The initial lash extension appointment can typically take about two to three hours. Getting lash fills is a more straightforward process, though, and as such, it takes more in the vicinity of an hour.

As with everything, the exact times will vary somewhat based on your lash specialist. Be sure to talk to your technician ahead of your treatment if you have any concerns over the length of your appointment. I always find getting my lashes done to be a very pampering experience, where I get to just close my eyes and relax. I personally really do not mind a somewhat longer appointment. Besides, if it takes a little longer to get my lashes just right, I am okay with that!
